Quarterly Update from Hayden Edwards, Director – SWAN Framework at BT

Welcome to the 3rd quarterly SWAN Newsletter. The transition of services from SWAN1 to SWAN2 is now well underway for both NHS and non-NHS SWAN Members. Last quarter we reported over 200 sites having been transitioned. I am pleased to announce over 1,500 sites have now been transitioned, with first site transitions for the Scottish Government, Forestry and Land Scotland, Midlothian Council, UHI, The Highland Council, Skills Development Scotland, West Dunbartonshire Council and Dundee City Council. A great effort by everyone involved!

The past quarter has seen new services implemented such as Secure Mail Relay, which provides additional security to all NHS Scotland email, the migration of the GOVROAM service to BT, Cloud Connect Direct services to Amazon and Microsoft, Managed LAN services and more. We are also introducing some new services as part of the Additional Services (VAS) offerings and will be announcing these in due course.

This Quarter has also seen more Members join the new SWAN Framework, such as Western Isles Council, NatureScot, Orkney Islands Council, Angus Council, Inverclyde Council and East Renfrewshire Council – bringing the total number of organisations that have signed up to over 80. Both the SWAN Authority, NSS, and BT are keen for remaining SWAN1 Members that have not yet placed their orders under the new Framework to finalise their transition plans as soon as possible so we can safely migrate your services. Again, my thanks to each Member for working so constructively with the BT team.

I am also pleased to announce that the first awards of innovation funding from BT via SWAN have been made, delivering truly exciting outcomes to 2 NHS Boards – watch this space for updates! SWAN Members are also taking advantage of the many other benefits that BT offers Members of the Framework. If you want to find out more about either of these areas, get in touch via swan.scot.

Looking ahead to the next Quarter, the pace of transition will accelerate and I hope to report further, significant progress to you. I hope you enjoy the rest of the Newsletter this Quarter.
